In the 90's I formed this band named bicycle. We didn't make much of an impact as evidenced by the fact that this is the first time your hearing of bicycle. But we did happen to make it onto the list of the Huffington Post's most Underrated Albums of the 90's.
After bicycle I started managing apartment buildings in Seattle. During my days I commute between the buildings I manage in Fremont, Ballard and Capitol Hill. On these trips I keep an eye out for free piles throughout the city.
The best free pile I've found in Seattle is on Nickerson street just south of the Fremont Bridge. At least once a month this high end custom cabinetry shop puts out a big bin filled with amazing next level wood scraps with the word "free" on it. You can watch a detailed video of this free pile here.
I store all this wood up in my office on Capitol Hill. Once in awhile, when I'm waiting between prospective renters, I sometimes have a few minutes to put some paint on these wooden canvases. If I'm lucky, later on in the day, I'll come back and draw stuff in the paint. That's my process.
